Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) M. Frye is a professor of Reading Education and the graduate program director for Reading Education in the Department of Reading Education and Special Education at Appalachian State University. In 2006 and 2014, she was the recipient of the Reich College of Education Outstanding Teaching Award. Dr. Frye’s research interests include writing instruction and the critical engagement of diverse children’s literature. She is particularly interested in pedagogical practices that facilitate children’s (and practitioners’) understanding of critical issues represented through inclusive literature. Her years of experience as a reading specialist and an elementary classroom teacher undergird her commitment to literacy teacher education.
