Gary Moorman is currently Professor Emeritus at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, USA. He retired in 2012 after 32 years at the university. During his career, he published in many professional journals, including Reading Research Quarterly, Reading Research and Instruction, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy (formerly the Journal of Reading), Reading Teacher, Reading Psychology, and Review of Research in Education. He co-authored three books, and co-edited a fourth. He was the Online Communities Director for Reading Online, the International Reading Association's online journal, and as an editor of the Yearbook of the American Reading Forum. He served on the editorial review boards for Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, ReadWriteThink, Journal of Educational Research, Reading Research and Instruction, Reading Psychology, and Teaching and Teacher Education. He was involved in international education efforts, participating in projects in Poland, Macedonia, Qatar, Egypt and Bolivia. He has remained professionally active in professional organizations, including the International Literacy Association and the American Reading Forum. He takes pride in acting as a mentor for younger professors and doctoral students.
