Mrs. Joni Salzano

Salzano began her teaching career in 1977 in New Bern, NC in a classroom for students with autism and moderate intellectual deficiencies. She moved to Durham, NC in 1985 and began teaching in the Duke Hospital School. Her students were K-6 chronically ill patients. She provided classroom instruction as well as served as a liaison with the home school. In 1992, her family moved to Boone, NC and she began working as the Diagnostic-Prescriptive Teacher for Watauga County Schools. Her responsibilities included educational assessments and compliance with EC paperwork. She left this position to become a full time educator in a cross-categorical separate classroom. She retired in June 2011. Mrs. Salzano currently serves as an adjunct instructor, teaching SPE 4215, SPE 4495. SPE 4496, and SPE 4900. She has two sons, one who is a Test Engineer and the other is a current Physiology PhD student.
